knitting invitation

At my working place, there is a girl who is doing the same kind of job as me. She works really hard, very serious and intense. In the morning when I arrive at office, she has already been working. When I leave office, she is yet working diligently. She works even in weekends. Her work is always perfect, she is a very kind and bright person, but often she's got sick and doesn't seem happy. I've got an impression that, she is not a simple workaholic, rather she doesn't know what to do to fill in her life.

Weeks ago, when I brought my AbFab shawl to the office, her eyes grew wide and she admired it heartily, with dreamy face. After that, I decided that I would try to get her knit with me.

One day I insisted her without offering any reason that she should KNIT. At first she seemed no specific interest in knitting, and tried to say no politely, but I didn't let her do it, I almost forced her to be convinced. She promised me to consider to knit some baby stuff for her sister's baby due in autumn. The day after, when she tried again to tell me finally she didn't think she could make it, I didn't listen to her, instead I showed her some knitting magazines, Erika Knight's beautiful baby knitting books and Rowan patterns. That intrigued her. Finally she decided to try to knit a baby blanket.

I helped her to choose yarn and order them. I arranged the original pattern of blanket to adjust her yarn weight, and wrote it down in Japanese. And this week we have received the package of the yarn, today at lunch time I taught her how to cast on.

I know my pushy and unkind way is not good, but anyway it worked until now. I can't know now if she could enjoy knitting. I just wish, that it could become something joyful, confortable to do, make her relax, happier than now... Today at least she looked a bit positive to knit and she was very happy with the yarn. We will see...

BTW, I finished a left glove:

For fingers I used only alpaca yarn. The colorway is very beautiful...thank you again, my secret pal!

Haha... I think it's actually very nice of you to teach her how to knit. Sometimes people don't know that they want to learn until someone tells them to learn! Hopefully she will find it enjoyable and can fill her time with it.

I think you did a wonderful, brave thing to show her how to knit :-) It is such a fulfilling pastime that I hope she will feel the same too.

The glove looks great ! It fits your hand perfectly. I think knitting can helps to release working pressure. Your colleague will have some change if she really go into knitting. I think you are doing right to "force" her to knit ^^.

BTW, I have bought some yarn in Tokyo. Thanks for giving me the info. I have join the member club of the store too !
